Srinagar, Jun 02 (KNO): Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Molvi Mohammad Umar Farooq, addressing a gathering organised by Aga Syed Mohammad Hadi Al-Moosavi Al-Safvi at Imam Barah Bemina on the occasion of the 36th death anniversary of the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Ruhollah Khomeini (RA), paid glowing tribute to his legacy and contributions to the Muslim world. In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Mirwaiz said that Imam Khomeini was a towering religious and political figure of the 20th century whose unwavering faith, leadership, and vision transformed a nation and inspired peoples globally. “His message of Muslim unity, resistance to injustice, and Islamic awakening remains profoundly relevant in our times,” he said. Highlighting Imam Khomeini’s emphasis on Sunni-Shia harmony and his famous declaration that “those who stir conflict between Shia and Sunni are not from us, Mirwaiz said sectarianism continue to be used as a tool to divide and weaken the Ummah. He said that the Islamic Revolution of 1979 was not only a turning point for Iran but a milestone in the modern history of Islamic movements, giving hope to people struggling for dignity and justice. Mirwaiz also referred to Imam Khomeini’s call for Muslim nations to unite as one body. Referring to the contemporary challenges facing the Muslim world—from Palestine to Kashmir—Mirwaiz said that drawing lessons from Imam Khomeini’s life means rejecting division, standing firm for justice, and empowering the new generation with Islamic character and awareness . He emphasised that confrontation and wars only bring suffering to people and instability to world. Dialogue and tolerance is the key to peace. Quoting Imam Khomeini, Mirwaiz said: “If Muslims unite, no power can defeat them.” He concluded by urging Muslims to hold fast to the rope of Allah and avoid division, as enjoined by the Qur’an—(KNO)
